Here’s the statement from the city about the departure of Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra’s chief of staff, Jared Kupiec.

It was agreed to when Juan Figueroa came on board that the transition would take 3 weeks. Today is exactly three weeks, therefore today is Kupiec’s last day. Figueroa will assume all responsibilities as Acting CoS as of Monday, June 24.

He received a standard 2 ½ weeks of severance and his vacation time as a run out exactly as determined by the HR code.

That’s fine.  But, if that was the deal three weeks ago, why didn’t you tell us?

We all know Kevin Brookman’s been having a field day with it.  And I asked the question a week and half ago, too.

So, hey, city hall.  If that was the deal three weeks ago, why only tell us now?

It’s this kind of gamesmanship that makes people wonder.

(Also, I’ve asked for more specifics regarding his vacation time.)
