Superior Court Judge Julia Dewey heard and denied various motions from the attorney for Mayor Eddie A. Perez Tuesday, clearing the way for jury selection in his corruption trial to begin in Hartford next week.
Among other things, Perez attorney Hubert Santos told the judge that moving forward as-is would be like going to trial with “one hand tied behind our back.” He also told Dewey that the “unrelenting barrage of negative publicity” over the past three years could make it hard to getting an impartial jury with minority representation in Hartford.
Dewey rejected those arguments, and others. Jury selection begins April 12. Dewey said trial could begin May 11 and could last through the month of June. Listen for our report tonight during All Things Considered.
